Black Patriots Monument in Bronze
David Newton, The Sculptor

Bringing the vision to life

David Newton is a classically trained sculptor whose work is dedicated to honoring the lives and contributions of African Americans and other historically marginalized communities through public art. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and trained at the College for Creative Studies and the New York Academy of Art, Newton further refined his craft through study in Florence, Italy, drawing inspiration from the great masters of figurative sculpture. Throughout his career, he has been driven by a commitment to portraying people of African descent with dignity and historical accuracy—addressing their absence and misrepresentation in traditional Western art.

With more than three decades of experience, Newton has created numerous public monuments and large-scale bronze works across the country, including the nationally recognized Freedman’s Memorial in Dallas, Texas. His sculptures are known for their technical precision, emotional depth, and ability to elevate overlooked stories into enduring symbols of courage and humanity. Through his work, Newton transforms historical figures into powerful, lasting tributes—ensuring their stories are not only remembered, but honored for generations to come.
