About Us
Mission Statement
The Black Patriots Commemoration Project honors Black participants of the Revolutionary War’s 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse. They were regimental soldiers, militiamen, laborers, medical care providers, camp workers, and supporting family members, both enslaved and free. Whether conscripted, seeking freedom and equality, or looking for advancement during the chaos of war, their roles often have been overlooked. Recognizing them will help ensure a deeper understanding of our nation’s past, provide educational opportunities, generate community pride, and bolster tourism by attracting visitors interested in the City of Greensboro, its military history, and its deep legacy of civil rights activism.
